POST-OPERATIVE RECOVERY
Following Dental Implants

It is crucial that the implant surgical
site be allowed to heal without stress. Please refer to the standard post-operative sheet for routine care.
Special instructions concerning dental implants are as follows:
- Any prosthesis (denture, partial, flipper,
etc.) needs to be worn according to the instructions given by your oral
surgeon. This can be critical to
the healing of the surgical site.
Use the antibacterial
mouth rinse as prescribed (usually Peridex Oral Rinse, 1/2 oz, twice a
day - swish for 30 seconds, then spit). Salt water may be used four
times a day.
- If prescribed take the anti-biotic until
completed. There are plenty of bacteria in the
oral cavity and antibiotics are essential to help decrease the chance of
infection.
- Smoking and alcoholic beverages should be
avoided during the acute healing period of at least two weeks. This will
decrease vascularity to the operative site.
If you are in doubt, or if there is any
sign whatsoever of a disorder related to the healing of the implant area, you
should contact our office.
